  • "Satogami offers colors that are derived from shades found in a traditional Japanese village and the landscape that surrounds it and changes as the seasons progress." This color specification of Satogami paper by Takeo from Japan reflects the passion that some suppliers put into their work. We have prepared a selection of papers that we like to work with, we believe in the highest quality and sustainable standards of their production. Here you will find papers suitable for coating – with long fibers, cardboard for boards, or thick, core-coloured cardboard. There are a lot of structures, finishes and textures. Paper suppliers usually complement each other in color. This allows us to find the exact color we are looking for. Some papers are available from as little as 1 sheet, some of them need to be purchased in the original packaging. The advantage of dyed papers compared to printed ones is that there are no "white" edges, and a white crack will never appear in the bend.

  • There's something about that bookbinding canvas. Perhaps its surface, which evokes exceptional, yet as if well-known sensations when touched. There are a lot of types of canvases. For example, one of 100% cotton with special protection against fingerprints. Or another of the premium silk fibers. Or yet another that combines differently colored fibers. All of them are manufactured by experienced manufacturers from Germany (Bamberger Kaliko), Italy (Manifattura del Seveso) and Holland (Van Heek Textiles). They are amazing not only for coating book covers, but also solid covers, binders, plates, cassettes and other products. Some can be printed using offset and screen printing technology. Beautiful effects are achieved by hot embossing, especially when it is heavily debossed to the depth of the material. We love the canvas.

  • PU (or polyurethane-fixed) materials are a great choice for book covers and coated covers. High-quality polyurethane is usually applied to a paper or textile base. The surface is usually embossed and colored to achieve the desired design in the form of leather, textile or other material. Polyurethane is made of a synthetic polymer that is easy to process. Although it is a more expensive option than in the case of PVC materials, it is still a very affordable option for bookbinding and packaging production. The biggest advantage over PVC is that it is a much more environmentally friendly material. And this in terms of production and aftercare. They do not require highly toxic chemical plasticizers and are much more degradable over time. Some PU materials are thermoreactive.

  • PVC materials (i.e. made of polyvinyl chloride) are a cheaper and more accessible option to PU (see Polyurethane). It is produced by chemical treatment of vinyl – flexible plastic resin. The latter is usually combined with various fillers to create texture, color and effects to achieve the desired design. PVC materials are also a more durable alternative to imitation leather used in the furniture, clothing and bookbinding industries. Here, too, they are cheaper, but nature then unfortunately worse degrades them...

  • Floclock materials are usually supplied in a suede leather design with a pleasant surface to the touch. They are made by applying eucalyptus wood cellulose fibers to a base material such as paper. There are a plethora of color shades and several types of surface. Flokaz is used for coating book covers, luxury covers and other premium products. It works perfectly as a surface of interior inserts in boxes, applied to foam or cardboard. Some flocs are printable by offset, digital or screen printing technology. Beautiful results are obtained during hot minting.

  • Glued leathers have the appearance and smell of genuine leathers, since they are made in tanneries on the same devices using the same methods as real leather. Residues that are formed during the tanning process are used. The result is materials with properties almost indistinguishable from genuine leathers, but with the advantage of uniform thickness and consistent quality. Thicknesses of 0.3-0.4mm are suitable for use in bookbinding and packaging production. Glued leather comes in many different colors and surface structures.

  • For details such as handles, closures and roundels, we sometimes use genuine leather in our production. Sometimes even for book cover. Leathers are made using a mixture of traditional and modern methods. Most of the skins are tanned – extracts from Sumac, Tara and Myrobalan plants are used, which pass on the best properties to quality bookbinding leather. Quality sorting is based on the amount of holes, the degree of scratches and other defects. In principle, the tannery assesses only the usability of the undamaged part of the skin. The first qualitative stage is usually located in a large rectangular shape on the central part along the spine. Furthermore, also near the edges, where it depends on whether in these places the standard one or more small damages will not affect the overall benefit of cutting. Leather of the quality of the second degree should be suitable for minor weaves. Lower grades are likely to have multiple distributed defects and are best suited for repairs and renovations where relatively small pieces of material are required.

  • Film for hot embossing is used by many designers in their projects. They realize that the added decorative effect increases not only the attractiveness of the product, but also its overall value. Which, in turn, can increase the market share and capital value of the brand itself. Because we specialize in hot embossing technology, we work with films on a daily basis in our production. However, every project is unique and every material is different. Therefore, embossing is sometimes alchemy, and the use of the right film often determines the quality of the result. For this reason, we cooperate with various film suppliers from England, Germany and Hungary. In short, every project deserves careful selection. Take a look below and you'll find that there's so much more than just gold and silver...
