Working for Formula 1 requires not only maximum performance, but also 100% preparation in the pits.
Presentation box with interior and book for the McLaren x Velo campaign.
This year, at the beginning of the summer, we were given the opportunity to work on a project that is not refused, even if you already see the children on holiday – a presentation box for McLaren with sponsorship from British American Tobacco. It was a complex production that is already typical for our workshop – a luxurious coated box with an interior, the content of which was a faithful mock-up of the helmet of F1 pilots, chewing tobacco from the sponsor and a presentation book in the mount. All this is complemented by sleeves and stickers. The 500-piece series had to be completed by July in order to be in Hungary in time for further assembly. In short, a nice challenge for the whole production team.
A global client usually means extreme demands on quality. In this case, the greatest adventure was the special color papaya orange, the use and execution of which McLaren must always approve without exception. Tweaking the shade wasn't fun, so we sent screen printing variants to London and Stockholm several times. Only then could we start printing on the special material Ballads in black, which was the basis of the material minimalist solution – it was created not only the cover of the box with a neck, but also the interior, book plates and sleeves.
A structurally interesting chapter of the design was a suitable solution for placing a mock-up helmet, the details of which were breathtaking. In order to enhance the "wow" effect, we have prepared a hollow cassette made of millimeter-thick Bowston Black cardboard with shape cut-outs. The presentation book in the cardboard folding mount then appeared as a surprise after removing the cassette from the box. We executed the book itself with top quality digital printing on paper of higher weight. For a small number of pages, the V1 binding stitched in the back of the thread was ideally suited, which we then glued into solid coated plates. Each set was complemented by stickers and a full-print sleeve in orange and the McLaren logo. At the end, we added the names of the people to whom the box was intended by hand with a marker.
Meeting the expectations of such a demanding customer as McLaren was not easy. But we devote the same care in our workshop to all clients. Such complex orders cannot be produced in small series in any other way than by hand and with personal passion. We are counting on it. We are perfectly equipped for this and we enjoy such work.
