Stylish notebooks and a key box for the premium volvo Polestar brand.
Pure progressive performance – this is what the high-tech electric cars of the Swedish brand Polestar have in their pedigree. In order to keep up with premium quality and refined style when producing the key box and gift notebooks for these super-modern cars, all our experience with demanding design orders was truly priceless.
The roots of the now world-famous Polestar brand lie in 1996, when racing driver Jan Nilsson founded Flash Engineering. After 10 years of focusing on modifying Volvo cars for racing purposes, Christian Dahl bought it and renamed it Polestar Racing. Over the next 10 years, in 2015, Volvo itself bought the cutting-edge know-how of high-performance cars and, under the name Polestar Performance, made the automaker a premium brand focused on the ultimate electric cars.
We are proud that Polestar, with its extreme demands on quality, is a long-term client not only of our Swedish partner Profilskaparen AB, but that it also likes our traditional workshop. This is far from the first time that our old machines have met the high requirements for detail and quality of print and packaging outputs for the state-of-the-art products they present to clients.
Nobody buys a Polestar limited series car every other day. It is a solemn event. That is why we were asked to produce an exclusive box that underlines the exceptional feeling. The construction consists of an inconspicuous, completely minimalist box with a neck - the cap and the lower part have the same floor plan. The outer side is covered with a fancy black Corvon Mano material, the interior, including the neck, is decorated with black flokaz.
The cardboard of the cap attached to the neck must be slightly thinner than the material of the lower part, otherwise it would not fit on the floccated neck. Or it would sit too tightly, creating ugly tension, and the effect of a completely smooth fit would be gone. Maybe it's a tiny detail, but Polestar accepts nothing but perfect execution. And we would not dare to give it away. That's why there are hours of engineering work and patterning behind the fit so that the cap fits perfectly. The car keys themselves are then set in a solid, also surface-floccated foam. The interior of the cap is equipped with a 3D emblem of the brand. The whole box is easily inserted into the velvet laminated sleeve.
The gift package for the keys also includes a pair of notebooks - lined with the size of A5 and the so-called A7 format reporter. Whether the owners will fill in a log book or interesting facts about the sighted reindeer, quality and gentle work will always make it more pleasant for them.
Notebook A5 has rounded corners, rubber band and is brought out in a delicate Imperial canvas. The load was not small, so it was perfectly realized for us by our colleagues from Finidr. However, a small reporter cannot be sewn on slot machines, so even in his case our hand machines came into play. The thousand-dollar print run in manual design was nicely enjoyed by colleagues in the workshop. In contrast to the bigger brother, the reporter is black, covered with imitation leather. It also has a rubber band so that it does not open.
The order for Polestar was another of those for which we do not work only as a bookbinding and packaging production, but a general contractor of a complex order. We normally combine our own resources with proven external partners, for each design we consider the best solution – whether it is ours or demanded from a better equipped cooperating workshop does not affect the result. Actually, it has, we always reach for the best. We are interested in the resulting quality, we are not led by the effort to swallow the budget ourselves. An order from us must always mean easier implementation for the client. Budget and deadline are sacred.
